Tough girl Ein from the anime Series Phantom – Requiem for the Phantom is available in scale form… Reservations are now being taken. I only just started watching this series so I can’t say much about the character yet. I do like the level of detail on this though. At the very least, worth a look.

Reservations can be made at Hobby Search for about 6,800 Yen retail.

I’m sure there are plenty of other reviews for the Movie so this one will be brief. I watched Ponyo this weekend with my kids and we completely enjoyed it. I got a kick out of how some of the names from previous names were used as were some of the faces from previous movies.

Some examples…
The boy from My Neighbor Totoro is the spitting image in face and name of the main character …
One of the Seniors at the Senior Center looked just like … from Howl’s Moving Castle when she had aged.
One of the Senior Center staff from the movie looked like on of the 2 daughters from My Neighbor Totoro as if she had grown up.

I’m sure there were other items present that I missed but those stood out to me.

The story is about a small fish/mermaid who after being exposed to magic, wants to become human. Having tasted human blood, she transforms herself into a girl about the age of the main character. These to play together and go an an adventure to find his mom once the island becomes flooded.

Meanwhile Ponyos mother and father decide to test the boys love for Ponyo and if it is true, allow her to remain as a girl. He passes the test proving that no matter her form, he will protect her. I think the story ended rather abruptly and could have had maybe another 10 minutes to show some of their life after she becomes a true little girl.

All-in-all, I really recommend this movie. If you are expecting Mech-warriors, demons, lightning, etc… those are not in this movie. Expect a wonderful story told brilliantly that has appeal to kids and parents of all ages. Hayao Miyazaki style is unique and I think the awards he has received are well deserved.

Other movies that he has produced include
Howl’s Moving Castle
My Neighbor Totoro
Spirited Away

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Anime’s Promo Video Streamed

Another new series for Fall that I think I’ll be keeping my eye out for…

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is a spinoff from Kazuma Kamachi’s To Aru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) light novels that are set in Academy City, a city where about 80% of its 230,000 citizens are students. The spinoff deals with the adventures of Mikoto Misaka, one of the Level 5 psychics in the original light novels.

I am a fan of period pieces when they are done well / in a believable manner of story telling. Watching this promo I think that this will be one I can appreciate.

Ishio Yamagata’s original light novels center around Hamutz, the world’s most powerful armed librarian who is in charge of the books that store the dead at Bantorra Library.

Animation is be performed by David Production while script supervision is being done by Mari Okada (Kuroshitsuji, CANAAN). This anime is set to premier in Japan on October 2nd.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this series plays out.

After reading an article about Itasha cars at Comiket, I looked a little further and found this video. Some of these are pretty slick. I’m thinking maybe I should start a trend here in the states…

I can’t say I have seen any Otaku theme based cars around where I live but there are some people beginning to “skin” their cars as a means of advertising. This is a pretty nice collection of images from an event in Japan called Natsucon where a bunch of Otaku were showing off their cars…

I wonder if people would think me strange to show at work with my car decorated with Holo from … Or even Canaan…

Poking around the Akibahobby website, I came across this little bit of cuteness…. I would not mind getting one of these as a gift [that's a hint]… It appears that this is a limited edition version available through a magazine “Dengeki Bunko MAGAZINE (magazine) No. 09, March 2009″.

Gotta say, despite the large crowds of people at the Comiket convention, I’m still envious. I would love to attend some time just to say I did… That and to spend silly amounts of money I don’t really have… But I digress…

From the Akibahobby website here are a few snapshots of upcoming figurines. To save space, I chose a select few… If you want to see more, head on over the their website.
