Naka-Kon, Kansas City Anime Convention

By | February 20, 2011

This weekend (February 18 – 20) there was an held in , MO called Naka-Kon. There were a number of events ranging from Anime information, gaming, voice acting as well as guests. Unfortunately due to scheduling, I was not able to attend the full convention this weekend.

I was able to spend a few hours there on Sunday so I opted to take my time and donate to a few lucky vendors. The convention was held at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center which has a fair number of meeting rooms. It also has a newer addition in the way of a mid-sized convention center. This allowed for a good sized vendor area for the number of attendees. I do think the layout could have been a bit different as I often felt a little crowded walking between booths but that is a minor thing. I think the Naka-Kon group has done an awesome job in pulling this off the past few years. I hope to attend in the following years as well as bring my kids.

I’m sorry I do not have much in the way of photographs this time. I would have loved to have gotten a few of the cos-player pictures. There were some outstanding costumes there. It has been a number of years since I attended a convention, over 15 to be exact so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I can tell you that the convention atmosphere has not changed much in that time and it the crowds and staff are as friendly as ever. If you enjoy traveling to conventions and would like to check out a smaller convention, I would recommend giving Naka-Kon a shot.

Attending a convention is a great feeling. My first one ever was last year in North Carolina called Animazement. Since then I have found 3 other conventions in my area ranging from 200 attendees to 6,000 or 7,000. Each has their own enjoyment for me.
