With Borders recently filing for Chapter 11 protection, they are closing a number of stores around the country. One store just happens to be literally across the street from my grocery store. That is probably a bad thing considering today. (I think I went overboard) (more…)

Naka-Kon 2011 Loots
Just thought I’d share a few of the items I picked up at Naka-Kon. I was pleased to find Miku, she is my first Miku figure. The 2 Evangelion figures ranged in price from vendor to vendor. I was able to talk one down to below the rest towards the end of the vendor hall time. Closing day is a great time to look for deals and talk prices. Would you want to haul all of those items back with you? (more…)

Production I.G.’s New Project, A Letter to Momo
Production I.G., known for a number of great anime series has gathered up a number of well known names to work on their latest anime movie project, A Letter to Momo.
This movie is about a girl, Momo, who after growing up in a big city has to move to a remote island following the premature death of her father. There, she and her mom live together in the old family house. Compared to the city, time appears to have stood still. Momo is none to thrilled about her new surroundings. But most of all, she is uneasy about an unfinished letter from her father. The letter contained two words: “Dear Momo…” What was her father going to say.
Some of the staff include:
Director / Screenplay / Storyboard: Hiroyuki Okiura (Jin-Roh)
Key Animation Supervisor: Masashi Ando (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away)
Key Animators: Toshiyuki Inoue (Tokyo Godfathers), Ei Inoue (The Cat Returns), Takeshi Honda (Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance), Tetsuya Nishio (The Sky Crawlers), Hiroyuki Aoyama (Summer Wars)
Background Art: Hiroshi Ono (Kiki’s Delivery Service)
Animation: Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh)
With names like these, I am looking forward to seeing this movie. I think the wait will be worth while. It is due to be in theaters in Japan in 2012.

Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance coming to theaters January 21, 2011
So I was browsing through one of my favorite trailer sites and on the first page was surprised to see this:

Evangelion:2.0
Since Evangelion:1.0 did not come close to our area in the theaters, I didn’t hold out much hope for a showing close enough to drive to, let alone a local showing. I went to the theater list and cheered out loud when I saw it would be shown in the city I live in. I’m excited and looking forward to the showing. As a bonus, I noticed the theater here will also be showing Evengelion:1.0 just before Evangelion:2.0. (Guess whose getting 2 tickets).
From the preview I saw on the FUNimation site and the trailer below, it looks like it may be a pretty good movie.
I’m not sure what to think of the addition of a new character (Mari) but I’ll treat this as I did the first. I’ll go in with an open mind trying my best to ignore the original series. I’d love to hear what you thought of the movie if you have seen it already or if you are planning to see it when it hits the theaters here in the States.
Amazon has already posted a page for the Blu-Ray release slated April 5, 2011…
