It’s hard to believe that Fall is starting up and the new shows are starting this weekend. What happened to the Summer? I don’t feel relaxed for some reason. Weren’t Summers supposed to be relaxing vacation times? Oh well, better luck next year.

In the mean time, we have a whole new selection of shows to watch this . This season, it appears we have to producers of charts gunning for your viewership. Chartfag and The Cart Driver. (Click the links to see the original postings)

My picks for this season are:

  • Arakawa Under the Bridge 2
  • Star Driver (What can I say, I’m a Bones fan)
  • My Little Sister can’t be this Cute
  • Ironman (previews looked pretty good)
  • Bakuman
  • A Certain Magical Index 2 (floored me when I learned of this)
  • Hakuouki 2 (got hooked on the 1st season)

These are just my first at a glance choices. There are some OVAs and Specials coming too that I hope to catch. I’m still trying to watch some Spring and Summer titles too.

Some really is out if you are a K-On fan. First, there are a couple of up for now. A cute set of the girls in the costumes they wore to recruit new members. The are by Wave, makers of the swimsuit diva series, and the entire set retails for around ¥6,090.

Another figure recently released for reservation is Alters version of Ritsu completely with drum set. This is an awesome looking figure and as you would suspect, just a touch pricey at around ¥10,290 or so retail. It’s a chunk of change to put toasted a figure but considering how detailed this figure is and what it might cost after reservations are closed.

As I was putting this post together, I came across another figure worth mentioning. Ui, Yui’s sister has been rendered in Nendo form and is also up for reservation… She can be found at Hobby Search and retails for around ¥3,500.

I have added Ritsu and Ui to my list and since both of these figures are due in February, I think I can set some aside for their purchase.
Lastly, a K-On film has been announced at the end of episode 25 as being green lighted. I’m excited and looking forward to the . I wonder what they will cover. College life perhaps? Pieces of high school life we were not shown?
At any rate, I thought it awesome to come across these items.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi – worthwhile viewing entertainment

I seriously feel like I am way behind on the times. Especially when I finally pick up a copy of and it is in the Classics collection. This is a cool series and I don’t know why I thought I should avoid it.
Haruhi sure is a character full of life. Always looking to find Espers, Aliens or time travelers. Little does she know that her club (the SOS Brigade) consists of just that and her reluctant friend from class. It’s a daily adventure to keep her from becoming angry or to bored lest the world as we know it gets destroyed by her imagination. Apparently Haruhi has an ability to recreate the world on a whim and is not aware of it. This is a series I recommend checking out.

So Much Anime, So Little Time

After having a week off from work and with that, more time to explore related content, I feel I will never get through it all. I’ve been picking up some shows on lately with their streaming feature. Lately I’ve been watching “Now and Then, Here and There”.

It is a pretty gritty episode with a fair amount of physical violence as well as some implied misconduct against a couple of the female characters. It is about a planet whose water resources have all but dried up and the battles that ensue over the limited resources. About a King who is fast loosing his grip on reality as he tries to force a girl named LaLa Ru possessing the power to release water for him. He believes this would make him revered / feared by all.

His army is made up of kids who have been orphaned as they were captured to fight in the war. The main character, Shu, has been captured as well and is being forced to fight. Shu was captured in Japan when he attempted to save LaLa Ru from being re-captured. Shu is also desperate to save LaLa Ru, from the King who is obsessed with controlling. (She is said to be able to summon a great amount of water)

Shu also meets another girl during his captivity named Sarah. her story seems to be a sad one as she was captured from America having been mistaken for LaLa Ru. Sarah seems to be used as entertainment for the older males and has become deathly afraid of them. Shu may be the only one who can save her.

The series is quite dark with the violence and the story line. It can be a bit depressing as well. It moves fairly well but I kinda wish some of the underlying stories would get resolved sooner. Like Sarahs storyline, you get to feeling pretty bad about her. If you like dark story lines and don’t mind a bit of violence, then you may appreciate this series. I have to watch a light hearted show afterwords usually to improve my mood.

Fan-Made Anime-Inspired Doctor Who Project

I’ve been a fan of Dr. Who for quite a number of years. I’ve watched episodes from the original Doctor (William Hartnell) up

through the current incarnation. Tom Baker was probably one of my favorites, though I have not seen enough of the more recent shows to decide about the recent actors. I was presently surprised when I came across this article on ANN. A fan of Dr. Who has created his own version of the show of how he feels an animated version should be done.

“32-year-old Paul “OtaKing” Johnson, a professional translator in Sheffield, England (who bears no relation to Toshio Okada, the “OtaKing” who co-founded Gainax), released a video on YouTube in February 2009 called “Making a proper Doctor Who  .” The 4-minute video depicts a fight scene evolving from rough drawings into a fully detailed, inked, colored, and dubbed animation, created entirely by Johnson himself.”

Here are some of the You Tube videos for your enjoyment. I like how the voice of the Japanese voice actress comes across. Don’t think I’d want to make her mad.

What do you think? I’m not a fan of the animation style but I do like what I am seeing.
