I have high hopes that this weekend I may be able to attend a local Anime convention, Naka Kon. It has been almost 20 years since I was last at a convention and I am looking forward to it. (Read I envy those going to Dragon Con and such) I believe my last convention attended was Chattacon. I miss you guys… I guess that happens when you travel and end up miles away from your former home.

Naka-Kon 2010
Whether tinkering with my blog or doing work stuffs or even the dreaded bill paying thing, I usually like to listen to some tunes. I thought that I would share one of my favorite sites to stream music from today, Kawaii-Radio. I have enjoyed listening to their stream since discovering it in the Win-Amp Radio Station listings a couple of years back. The music seems to be kept up to date so there is little to no risk of it going stale.
If you are into Anime, I recommend checking them out. If you are like me, you can’t afford to import all those soundtrack and jpop CD’s you want from Japan either. If you like what you hear, drop them a donation to show your appreciation. What do you like listening to when working on the PC? Do you have a favorite site / stream provider?
Flipping through the Internet this evening I came across this cool application / hardware add-on for iTouch / iPhone. You can now use it as a Universal Remote control. The folks at Think Flood have come up with this cool product they have named Red Eye. Being somewhat of a gadget nut I love the idea. If you have one already, I’d love to hear your opinions of it.
Here in the US, a couple of the TV networks may try to imitate some of the popular Japanese challenge game shows but I think they fail. I get the impression they they are to afraid they will get their assets sued off if they try to go the full extend that Japanese TV seems to go.
Take this challenge for example. The goal is to ride the full length of floating containers tied together. Roughly 300 meters distance. Fun to watch…
I saw this and thought Ninja Warrior, another Japanese challenge show that has been airing on the G4 cable channel for a while.

Hubble Telescope
If you have the ability to enjoy movies presented in IMAX 3D then let me make a recommendation for you. During the previews before the awesome Avatar movie started, there was one that caught my eye. Warner Brothers along with NASA are releasing a documentary titled Hubble 3D. It really caught my eye for the clarity / apparent quality of the images shot. The preview itself was also presented in 3D. There was not much shown during the preview but I was wow’d. This film is narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Can you imagine the variety of stamps here in the US if that were allowed. Hmm, hey USPS, what say you? You could allow that and tag the stamps with a 2D bar-code to make them official…
LoneOtaku Stamp

I originally read about this over on Danny Choo’s website. Quite interesting concept. In a country where there are a huge number of bicycle used every day this makes perfect sense. To combat the lack of parking space for bicycles, the Japanese have devised an automated underground storage system. Hmmm, this seems vaguely reminiscent of the movie Minority Report for some reason… Check out the link to Danny’s site below for more details.

Gundam Wing
No, I’m not referring to battling mech armor suits such as in the Gundam series of anime. Not that some of those battles weren’t pretty good eye-candy back when they originally aired. (Gundam Wing was my first intro to the series) Instead, I’m referring to a real-life battle between Gundams. (remote controlled scale models of course) Recently posted on Japan Probe was an entry showing 2 Gundams battling it out at a recent robot competition. (International Robot Expo)
Just watching the video, I can only imagine the collateral damage these 2 would cause if they were life size. I can’t imagine a city recovering to quickly from such a battle these days. One battle would probably bankrupt the city with the number of buildings destroyed.
