Japan – Land of the Future

Browsing some links this morning, I came accross this story on the BBC website. is what I would call a tech crazy country. So much so that we here in the US seem to be lagging pretty far behind in some ways. (Cell phone features and speed of Internet access come to mind).

Japan Satellite View

I have on my wish list to visit there someday, in particular Akihabara and Shibuya. Since I also enjoy taking pictures though, I will really have to plan on visiting longer than just one week. My dream trip would be to NOT take the tourist trap tour but to actually meet somebody that lives there with similar interests. I suspect that a tour by someone not stuck to a planned path would be much more entertaining. For example, hidden shops to satisfy Otakuism or better restaurants with more authentic cooking (aka, not toned down for “wimpy” American taste buds)

In researching for this blog entry, I came across that Tokyo has 23 wards (another link) of which Akihabara and Shibuya are parts of. Looks like if I am going to plan a trip there, I better start soon. :) Something tells me there is LOTS to see.

Got a little bit bored with the current appearance of my car so I thought I would start coming up with some new ideas for an Itasha… Here is what I have right now…

I know, it looks bland but its still a work in progress… Once I get the result I desire, I’ll just need to find someone who would be willing to complete the masterpiece.

Here is a service provided by Tenso.com that allows you to receive merchandise from companies in that do not ship overseas. Tenso allows you to establish a Japanese address to which you have your purchase shipped. From there, they forward the items on to you using the EMS shipping rates.

Sounds cool to me… At the moment I haven’t needed a service like this but I would love to hear from anyone that has used this or a service similar to this…

After my previous order of Fate/Stay Night got canceled, I had to re-order my DVD set. I was a bit bummed as you may imagine considering it took almost a month of waiting before I found that it would not be available.

Luckily I had patience on my side when I noticed a new release slated for 9/1. So I just started watching it and I have not been disappointed yet. Having only seen the Manga thus-far, I was not sure what to expect. Unlike say Suzuka, the Manga and Anime are pretty much in sync. In the Suzuka Anime, I find myself falling asleep…

Well, off to watch an episode before heading to work…

After reading an article about Itasha cars at Comiket, I looked a little further and found this video. Some of these are pretty slick. I’m thinking maybe I should start a trend here in the states…

I can’t say I have seen any Otaku theme based cars around where I live but there are some people beginning to “skin” their cars as a means of . This is a pretty nice collection of images from an event in called Natsucon where a bunch of Otaku were showing off their cars…

I wonder if people would think me strange to show at work with my car decorated with Holo from Spice and Wolf… Or even Canaan…
